It has been a long, long time since we have been to the Pacific National Exibition, so we thought we'd go this year. I had a day off, and convinced Dad to take a half a day and off we went. The weather was great and we had fun wandering around looking at things. These pictures should bring back some memories for you of Playland. No, we didn't go on any rides.

Then to the Rick Springfield Concert. We stayed for about a half hour, then left for home. We didn't get to hear any of his songs that I recognized, but it was still fun for a while.

Dad Talking to a Baby Racoon

I learned how to speak a little "Racoon" this weekend. I heard the Mother Racoon calling it's babies and so when she left them I started calling to them. They answered me so I recorded a little on the video. We alwasy asked our children: " what does the cow say?" Now we can ask them what a Racoon says. They are under the tarp on the neighbor's side of the fence, but they didn't come out like we were hoping..

Ward Campout

Our ward campout was this last weekend at Deas Island Park. It is only about 20 minutes away but it's nice and it was private. The typical families were there. We fixed a little dinner, visited, played a little bocci, and went for a walk and played some Oh Heck.

Our tent had the best tarp there!! Dad's specialty. It lightly sprinkled while we set up but that was it. Thanks, Mike for the use of your tent.

Our little bedroom here looks comfy, but we only slept about 4 hours. Amazing though, there weren't any bugs. With marshes and river on three sides, you would think there would be mosquitoes, but I saw maybe ... 2.

Because of the dry conditions and forest fires throughout the Province we weren't allowed to have a campfire, so someone brought a propane campfire. It worked very well...bright flame but no sparks. We tried singing some group songs, but it was kind of pathetic.

Trip to Whistler

Dad volunteered to drive the Venturers to Garabaldi Provincial Park for their Super Activity. They will be hiking to the top of Black Tusk, in the piture below, over the next 3 days. Mike and Brian went up and back in one day last summer.

After we dropped them off, we went up the trail for a ways...it is beautiful and quite steep.

Then we drove further up to the Olympic sites in the Whistler area. The ski jumps were amazing! They look way higher in real. We couldn't see some others venues in the area because of work being done on them.

The Inukchuk is the symbol used for the Vancouver Olympics so of course we had to get some pictures of it.

Then we drove to Whistler Village, walked around to find something to eat, but ended up getting a $6 ice cream cone to share because everything else was too expensive! Then we ate in Squamish on the way home.

We stopped by this beautiful river on the way home, but it doesn't show that we are really high up compared to the river. I risked my life for this shot and no one can even tell!

Then we headed for home enjoying the drive along the ocean and mountains!

Saturday Projects

Brian at 7 1/2 months old. He loved gnawing on the corn cobs! Icouldn't find any more old family pictures of the event... I guess we were just too busy. I'm sure the kids all remember it anyway.
We love fresh corn on the cob, and years ago we would prepare it and freeze it as a family project after the Ward Corn Bust. It was a great family work project that we got to enjoy thoughout the whole year. We decided to do some this year and although it was only the two of us, it took us only 1 1/2 hour to do 60 cobs. The bags had varying amounts for different uses, but we got 24 bags.

Our blueberries are doing great and after freezing an ice cream bucketful, I decided to try some freezer jam, and make a blueberry cream cheese pie. We still have much more to come if the sun will come back to ripen them.

Cardston trip

The August 1st long weekend we decided to head for Cardston and see Grandma and Grandpa. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing 3 days there. We played Rook, saw Harry Potter, watched some football games, went shopping, to the theater, visited friends and relatives.

David took these pictures of the Cardston Temple one night when it was very windy and stormy and he wanted to go for a walk to enjoy the elements.

We enjoyed seeing a lot of relatives when we went to a wedding reception of David's cousin's daughter. Here is a picture of Grandma, Grandpa,Uncle Dan, and Grandpa's four sisters Louise, Marjorie, Fern, and Bonnie. We had a great time visiting with them and a bunch of cousins that we hadn't seen for a long time.

Grandpa spends quite a bit of time doing Spanish extraction work on the computer. The next day, we went to Lethbridge for a new bigger moniter.

While visiting Kearls new ranch, he just had to sit on the old tracter...just like a kid. He really wanted to drive it around.

Linda and Lloyd Kearl in front of their new home in Cardston. It is beautiful and very large.....more like a Reunion Center. I think they believe "if you build it, they will come".
